The IDC study is aligned with the methodology used by IDC's Worldwide Semiannual Software Tracker. The forecast includes revenue generated by only the original software manufacturer or independent software vendor (ISV). The reseller's markup is excluded. (It is important to note that some of the printing equipment manufacturers also function as ISVs.)"The document solutions software market faces significant challenges, as page volumes continue to decline and office print fleets continue to shrink," says Geoffrey Wilbur, research manager, IDC's Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions group. "However, the evolving security concerns of an increasingly hybrid workforce, an accelerating desire of customers to migrate document solutions to the cloud, and opportunities to expand product penetration in emerging markets provide avenues for growth."
