Kitchen and Cookware Stores in Australia
The Kitchen and Cookware Stores industry has faced a difficult trading environment over the past five years. Despite discretionary income growth, volatile consumer sentiment and continued demand from cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services have hindered demand for industry products over the period. Rising competition from online-only operators has also eroded revenue away from the industry. Industry revenue growth over the three years through 2021-22 has spiked following the outbreak of COVID-19 in March 2020. Temporary lockdown periods and trading restrictions imposed to stop the spread of the virus have increased home cooking by consumers, fuelling demand for kitchen and cookware products. Overall, industry revenue is expected to rise at an annualised 0.5% over the five years through 2021-22, to $1.4 billion. This includes growth of 1.6% in the current year, due to a continued rise in discretionary income and positive consumer sentiment.
Industry operators retail kitchenware and cookware such as pots and pans, bakeware, knives and utensils. These products are purchased from manufacturers and wholesalers based domestically or offshore and then on-sold, primarily to consumers. Department stores, supermarkets and pure-play online retailers are excluded from the industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
